About Your Teacher

As a former homeschool mom myself, I know firsthand the unique challenges families face when it comes to teaching science. My heart is to make science fun, accessible, and stress-free—so your student can learn with confidence and curiosity.

Hi, I’m Becky Cook, the heart and hands behind Lab Rat Academy. Fifteen years ago, I set out on a mission to transform science education for homeschool families—because I believe science isn’t just something you read about; it’s something you experience.

With over 25 years of teaching, I’ve seen the magic that happens when students dive into hands-on exploration. Science should be thrilling, engaging, and inspiring—not overwhelming or intimidating. That’s why I’ve designed interactive, expert-led dissection labs that bring the wonder of biology right into your home.

What grade levels is this lab designed for?

The Ultimate Earthworm Dissection is designed for homeschool students in grades 1–12. Younger students may need help handling tools and following instructions, so parent or older sibling supervision is encouraged.

Do I need experience with dissections to use this course?

Not at all! The course includes step-by-step video instruction that makes the process clear and easy, even for parents and students with zero prior experience.

How much parental involvement is required?

Some supervision is recommended because dissection tools are used. Most students in 2nd grade and above can complete the dissection independently with light oversight.

How long does it take to complete the lab?

The course is self-paced. Most students complete the videos, worksheets, and full dissection in about one hour, but they are welcome to take more time.

Is there a way to ask questions or get support?

Will my child receive a certificate?

Yes. Students who complete the Ultimate Earthworm Dissection Lab will receive a certificate of completion—perfect for homeschool portfolios.

The digital course includes expert-led instruction, printable worksheets, quizzes, and all required educational content. The physical dissection kit is optional and purchased separately.

Can I use this course with more than one child?

Yes! Multiple children in the same household may share the course. If you want each child to have their own hands-on materials, you can order additional kits separately.

Are the preserved worms safe to use?

Yes. The preserved worm specimens are safe and easy to handle. The course includes safety guidelines, and the optional kits ship with one pair of gloves per student. If you need extra gloves, you can purchase additional pairs online or at any local store.
